The most common error encountered is that of the .NET Framework. It amazes me that I even recieve emails about this as it is usually displayed in many areas around the web site and people still seem to not read it so I will say it again and I will never answer any emails about this.

AVI.NET & PGC.NET (AS WITH ALL .NET PROGRAMS) NEED THE MICROSOFT .NET FRAMEWORK (WINDOWS UPDATE)

Without the .NET FRAMEWORK you'll recieve an error similar to this: 'The Application Failed To Initialize Properly (0xc0000135)' so make sure you've done all your windows updates and everything should be fine.

When you make an XviD AVI and some third party program or utility tells you its really a DivX file, don't panic, the program is lying, the file *is* an XviD. All the program is doing is checking the 4CC of the file and reporting DivX, even for an XviD. When avi.NET muxes (combines the audio and video) at the end of a conversion, it uses DivX Networks DivXMux program. It is this program that is writing the DX50 4CC into the header making other programs report them as DivX, even when they are not. The latest GSpot v2.60 RC reports DX50 in an XviD made using avi.NET but does, correctly, also report XviD v1.1.2. So reat assured, if you make an XviD AVI with avi.NET, then it's an XviD.

Talking of codecs, there is something quite important to mention, avi.NET must have the correct version of XviD installed for that version. Failure to do so will result in incorrect conversions, the filesizes will be wrong by quite a margin. avi.NET uses player profiles when converting to ensure standalone playback but for some reason unknown to me the developers of XviD keep changing the profile name which means every new version of XviD kills any program that relies on using that profile.

One point to mention about pgc.NET, if you press start and it just seems to flicker, or start and finish within a few seconds when you was expecting the whole movie to be ripped, it may be because authentication has failed. You'll probably find the ripped vob file is only 2K or so in size. There is an easy remedy to this, briefly play the dvd, start it on the pc you're ripping from (the source pc), play for a few seconds then you can shut the player down, everything should then be fine. This is also extremely important when the source dvd is on a mapped network drive as pgc.NET can not authenticate over a network.

If you need to email me concerning a problem or error with pgc.NET or avi.NET then try to fully explain the problem, along with a screenshot would be even better. Try not to just say 'It crashed' or 'don't work', I can't read your mind, I need to know exactly what happened, tell me the program and version you are refering to and remember to use the correct codec versions.
